5 - PROGRAM / SERVICE / ACTIVITY PURPOSES
The project LIMA is an educational and training programme for older people based on the SIMA-Studies (Prof. Dr. Oswald, University of Erlangen, Germany; see bibliography) and is a combination of cognitive, competence and fitness training and to address body, mind and soul. It aims at maintaining of a good quality of life and lust for life.

For the cognitive training exercises for concentration and attention are implemented. Psychomotor functioning includes exercises for coordination, balance, mobility, games, and dances in order to foster physical activity. Competence trainings aims to improve competences for daily activities through information and awareness (various themes like age changes, living conditions, social contacts). Sense and religious beliefs are covering themes like hope, wishes, and loneliness.

The components are combined in the LIMA training programme. The aim is to promote and protect autonomy in age, raise of wellbeing and quality of life (in the range of the own physical and mental abilities). Therefore a range of practical exercises are offered but also inputs are given and discussion takes place.

7 - METHODOLOGY USED (presentations, pair work, group work, peers, mentors, blended
learning, e-learning, etc.)
The course is directed flexible to the interests of the participants and takes potentials but also (physical) constraints into account. In addition different needs of men and women as well as migrant needs are taken into account. The course is defined by a broad definition of learning and education (also in everyday life).

Methods: pair work and group work sessions; for instance a face-to-face interaction about the issue “help” or group dancing.

Note: for pair and group work activities attention was paid that there was no physical contact between participants in order to respect intimacy; for written exercises the letters were written in an appropriate size; for physical exercises the used objects had a good profile also to include older people who are functionally impaired.
Breaks: in the breaks (lunch, coffee) all participants are together and group photos were taken

In conclusion LIMA is building on a holistic learning concept with includes mental, physical and social components. It builds on the potentials of the individuals as a starting point. It uses a broad spectrum of methods and didactics. LIMA has already a long history and a high grade of dissemination and is sustainable. The evaluation points to a high level of satisfaction.
