5 - PROGRAM / SERVICE / ACTIVITY PURPOSES
open learning phase (incl. mind strengthening, psychomotor training).

6 - RESOURCES
a.- Which materials were used?
The didactic materials are developed and created by principles of Montessori and covers the needs of older people. It allows holistic learning because by activating all senses. Aspects of the materials (such as isolation of one aspect, restriction of quantity, immanent control of errors, aesthetics, and activity) are combined with requirements of geragogy (such as stability and clear structure, big letters, varying materials, taking into account the different needs and skills of older people and building upon the experiences and living situation of older people).
Materials are described in “Geragogischen Materialienkatalog nach Montessori-Prinzipien“ and include practical advices for the development and use including aspects of geragogy. Note: the materials (worksheets) can be adapted to the needs of the participants.
b.- Who conducted the program / service activity? (What role, what qualifications, etc.)
Materials were conceptualised, developed, tested, evaluated and adopted by Christine Mitterlechner and Beatrix Dangl-Watko and approved by researchers and practitioners.

7 - METHODOLOGY USED (presentations, pair work, group work, peers, mentors, blended
learning, e-learning, etc.)
The free learning phase is based on a model of open learning (so called 4 phases model) and was modified for the needs, approaches and skills of older people (6 phases model):
1. Compliance and activation (Einstimmung und Aktivierung): explanation of the program and activation exercice (sesibilisation of hands, dancing to music during sitting on a chair)
2. Free choice of work (Freie Wahl der Arbeit): educators prepared different materials and exercises (with different difficulty levels) on various tables from which the seniors can choose (eg to set the table, word quizzes, calculation skills, geography knowledge, physical exercises for balance).
3. Implementation of the self-chosen work (Durchführung der seblstgewählten Arbeit)
4. Period/phase of silence (Stillephase)
5. Reflection phase (Reflexionsphase): participant give feedback how the learning phase was perceived.
6. Strengthening of soul and finishing (Seelenstärkung und Ausklang)

By this model self-directed learning is possible. An important aspect lies in the “prepared frame/environement” (learning setting, learning arrangement) which is co-developed by seniors.
Note: Educators learn to take the role of older people and that dignity and respect is one of the most important aspects.

8 - PROGRAM / SERVICE / ACTIVITY SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The course tries to improve the ability of daily activities of older people and empowers older people on the basis of a holistic learning concept. The course follows a process in which body, mind and soul is activated on the basis of the potentials of the older individuals (independently of chronological age and potential age related deficits.
There is a broad range of various innovative materials which also allows to promote the health of dementia patients.
