5 - PROGRAM / SERVICE / ACTIVITY PURPOSES
Since 2001 SelbA is offered which is a diversified and effective trainings program to raise the quality of life of older people 60+ in relation to a holistic, mental and physical health. It bases on four pillars:
1. Memory training: keeping mentally fit and mental strengthening
2. Psychomotor training: training of mental and physical mobility
3. Competence training: support of daily activities
4. Meaning and beliefs.

It combines aspects like introduction to a process oriented geragogy, long lasting maintenance of autonomy in old age, retardation of cognitive decline and positive effects on the health status of participants. The SelbA training integratively connects cognitive training, physical and daily activities and the reflection with meaning and beliefs in life. It shows participants new perspectives for a meaningful arrangement of their living situation.

6 - RESOURCES
a.- Which materials were used?
Exercises like logical reasoning, word quizzes, counting exercises. The materials and exercises used follow no standardised design and high creativity of the educator is given.
On the web page of the program several training examples can be downloaded: eg an example for memory training, gymnastics for osteoporosis, strengthening the functions of the left and right brain hemisphere, popular sayings in which vowels (Selbstlaute) are missing, visual trainings, mental arithmetics for calculation skills, concentrating reading, hidden town names in shaked words (Schüttelwörtern)
b.- Who conducted the program / service activity? (What role, what qualifications, etc.)
Each training session has a thematic focus, physical and mental exercises. Training is conducted by qualified trainers who have to take continuous further education. 90 % of the trainers are females.

7 - METHODOLOGY USED (presentations, pair work, group work, peers, mentors, blended
learning, e-learning, etc.)
SelbA offers continuous social activities (over years) which develops personal relationships and a positive experience of companionship. Intention and motivation is the key element: The sustainable health promoting effect is achieved because the training motivates participants to exercises during the courses and also at home (between this to the next training session). So older people can contribute to stay physically and mentally fit in an active, sensible and competent way. Moreover the program contributes to a positive attitude towards one’s own life and supports older individuals on this way. The success in the group situation helps developing increase self-confidence. There is a broad spectrum of methods and didactics.

8 - PROGRAM / SERVICE / ACTIVITY SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The training is offered in the entire Austrian region of Tyrol and many municipalities.
Sustainability is reached because it builds on social networks/socialisation (commitment) because of the continuous training sessions (friendship and social capital building). In sum it is an empowerment program aiming at achieving autonomy in a sustainable way.
The main result is that it strengthens joy and meaning of life. Through participation most of the participants recognised an improvement and most of them got a feeling of higher self-confidence, is living in a healthier way and has a higher social capital.
