5 - PROGRAM / SERVICE / ACTIVITY PURPOSES
The Federal Association Seniorentanz Österreich offers two educational measures for older people in the area of dancing. They offer the possibility to dance in higher age groups, to learn different dancing styles of various countries/regions to different music styles. The program covers four dimensions and trains several skills and competencies: music, physical activity/movements, recall and memory. Furthermore it aims to promote communication, companionship, joy and wellbeing for a successful ageing process.

The first offer covers a broader group of older individuals and in the second dancing ins offered in a sitting position for frail or disabled older people basing on additional dimensions, ie gymnastics, cognitive trainings and games.

6 - RESOURCES
a.- Which materials were used?
A (dancing) room, different music, and sitting possibilities. For course instructors several background material is used (see below)
b.- Who conducted the program / service activity? (What role, what qualifications, etc.)
A professional dancing master educated by the Federal Association (Bundesverband Seniorentanz Österreich) who has to complete a training seminar in which they get a certificate.

7 - METHODOLOGY USED (presentations, pair work, group work, peers, mentors, blended
learning, e-learning, etc.)
The sessions start with a welcome round. Then there is a group activity where all participants dance together in a circle with different step sequences for the left and the right dancer (ie the persons need to memorize their steps). Later the step sequences get more complicated with an extended choreography with different music styles (every dance lasts some minutes). First it is shown by the course/dance instructor and then participants have to follow the instructions (note: participants have to concentrate, memorize the steps, put it into practice, activate the body, move to the music, and coordinate with others).

Note: on the webpage several videos can be seen, eg Arnold’s circle, Belle of the Ball, Blaue Korenbloern (pair dance), Philadelphia Kreiskontra but also examples for seated dances.

8 - PROGRAM / SERVICE / ACTIVITY SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The program is a holistic health promotion example based on experiences and documentation which fosters concentration, reaction, activity, coordination, balance with positive effects on physical but also mental health (ie autonomic nervous system, cognitive training, self-efficacy and self-confidence, memory, re-cognition). Furthermore dancing is a social activity and helps socialising and building social contacts and relationships.
