Hours per unit:introductory seminar from 3-8 p.m. (5 hours) and each of the five modules from 8:45 a.m to 5.30 p.m. on the next day. In total 105 units per 45 minutes each

5 - PROGRAM / SERVICE / ACTIVITY PURPOSES
It is a model project for the development of innovation potentials of older people through the development of new learning areas and action filed. It aims to empower older people in one calendar year by six modules where skills and competences are strengthened, eg self-efficacy and self-confidence, personal and social competencies, active participation in societal processes and empowerment to problem solving. After completing the modules “future mentors” should initiate projects in relation to their living environment in their communities.

The project is conducted by an association which consists of 5 active women who wants promote social and community development for a better living environment of older people by the development of new learning and activity fields.

7 - METHODOLOGY USED (presentations, pair work, group work, peers, mentors, blended
learning, e-learning, etc.)
After an introductory seminar it aims to empower older people in two areas via five modules :
Area 1: For the enlargement of personal experiences of participants:
Module 1: Life history and identity, ie discover new horizons, location of my position, my personal skills/competences, my ideas/aims/dreams/visions, life in a changing society, lifelong learning.
Module 2: Personal competencies, ie active ageing, time management, self-coaching, how to say “No!”, successful ageing, nutrition and physical exercise in older age, engagement and volunteering, project development.
Module 3: Communication, ie basic communication knowledge, communication with seniors, basics in moderation and conflict management, crisis management (incl. grief), life changes, meaning of life, dignity, project development.

Area 2: Development of a tool box for activities as a “future mentor”
Module 4: Project management, ie project development and organisation, phases, planning, budgeting, marketing, publicity, legal aspects.
Module 5: Participation, ie of seniors, methods for an increased participation, sensitizing for a better interconnection of generations, autonomy and self-determination, building new contacts and networking, presentation skills.
In sum they train basic knowledge and practical skills in these areas: nutrition, physical activity, mental and social activity/fitness in the third and fourth age, gerontology, geragogy, communication, presenting, social participation, project management, marketing, and networking.
In course of the project participants have to develop their own concrete ideas for implementing a project as a “future mentor”.
