5 - PROGRAM / SERVICE / ACTIVITY PURPOSES
The aim of the project was to offer a service to 32 residential homes for older people in Vienna to practice miniature golf (minigolf). It was aimed to create a measure which allows to reach older people in this specialised context and setting for which a detailed planning of the intervention was necessary on the basis and principles on health promotion and geragogy.
Today, most of the target group in residential homes do not have a lot of biographical experiences in physical exercise on which can be built on. Therefore minigolf is an ideal activity which most of the older people know, have already done in the past, for which no special clothing is needed and which can be done without too much physical competencies (and therefore can be done of frail people, eg because it is possible to pick up the ball with a suction device at the end of the minigolf racket). Nevertheless, to go to a minigolf court is difficult for the target group and therefore mobile indoor minigolf tracks have been installed in residential homes for older people (at central places, like in the cafeteria).

Older people were educated in playing minigolf and most of the residents (80%) started to play minigolf on a regular basis (note: sometimes they conducted some championships). The positive effect was a promotion of physical health (eg raised everyday activity level), social and mental health (eg less isolation, raised contacts between residents, self-esteem, learn to know how to cope with a win and situation of loss).

6 - RESOURCES
a.- Which materials were used?
A mobile minigolf track, rackets and what is needed for indoor minigolf.
b.- Who conducted the program / service activity? (What role, what qualifications, etc.)
The EU-project was conducted in cooperation of the Minigolfcompany, the Kuratorium der Wiener Pensionistenwohnhäuser (Viennes Residential Homes for Pensioners) and the University of Vienna (Abt. Bewegung- und Sportpädagogik, Zentrum für Sportwissenschaften) which was a factor of success for the project.

7 - METHODOLOGY USED (presentations, pair work, group work, peers, mentors, blended
learning, e-learning, etc.)
Education for and the use of minigolf was trained by pair work, group work and mentoring.

8 - PROGRAM / SERVICE / ACTIVITY SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The project was guided by the idea, that an educational program/measure to promote health of older people needs to be closely developed on the environmental possibilities (ie residential home setting) and individual needs of older people.
