5 - PROGRAM / SERVICE / ACTIVITY PURPOSES
The education program fosters a change and reorientation in relation to the position of older women in society. The main aim was to strengthen the awareness for the special situation and problems of older women in the public discussion which needs to be taken into account for the empowerment of older women.

Empowerment is an essential prerequisite for participation in society of older women. Participation needs empowerment for which the rise of the consciousness for self-worth and to be a resource for society is needed. An important second step is the development of a competence.

To support these developmental steps for a stronger participation in society an education program for older women was developed in order to raise self-esteem, self-knowledge, self-awareness, and behavioural competence.

8 - PROGRAM / SERVICE / ACTIVITY SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The program is constructed along four main education units/parts which support a continuous development of self-awareness, self-knowledge, self-worth and social competence. After Hilarion Petzold (older) individuals need to go through a process of emotional realisation (1.), identification process (self-discovery) (2.), a stage of life planning (3.), and Identification (3.) in order to promote participation (4.):

1. “Leiblichkeit” / corporality as introduction: older women (50+) are confronted with a change of the body in various ways, eg chronic illness, depressive feeling, feeling of loss of youth and beauty, which have a value in our society and are important aspects in the life of older women. This issue provides a lot of opportunities to connect it with other themes and interests.

2. Biography as a resource: 50 and more years are connected with a personal history which is part of mind, body and living situation and is embedded in a historical time line. Participants tell stories about their own history in the group of older women. This visualises, that a personal biography is structured in a similar way. This experience may help to get a personal relief and supports a feeling of belonging.

3. Identity as a “new formation of the jewel”: every individual is changing and is part of a process of change. In order to enjoy a full of life in old age an interim balance is needed. Therefore we need to know who we want to be in the age of 60, 70, 80 … because our identity and our behaviour are dependent on inner and outer circumstances.

4. Participation as a donation to society: the new third and fourth age has advantages but also disadvantages, eg poverty of older women, multi-morbidity, violence and abuse, meaningless of life. An active and stronger participation of older women means to be prepared for this extended life years and to find a balance between overload and underload. An indispensable prerequisite for a positive ageing.
