5 - PROGRAM / SERVICE / ACTIVITY PURPOSES
The folder text asks: “Do you want to stay mentally fit into old age?” The project SiA is an orientation help for older women and men in order to give a new meaning and being in life for integration in society even after the occupational phase. Which includes themes and problem areas such as: societal and social backgrounds, mental and physical change, disposition of time and arrangement life, partnerships and being a single, living together with individuals of another generation, conflict management, engagement in society, voluneteering, taking responsibilities for self and others.

Furthermore the program is an example for senior and adult education which is an area with not enough services therefore older people are “excluded” for further education.
From year to year there was a different fous:
2012: Denk Fit – Älterwerden mit Köpfchen (Think fit – Ageing with brains)
2011: Ehre – Amt – Ehrenamt
2010: Kinderarm & Altenreich (Few children & many old)
2009: Lust und Frust im Alter (Delight and frustration in old age)

The summer academy for post-occupational learning was initiated by Dr. Rosemarie Kurz (Referentin für Generationenfragen der ÖH der Uni Graz) and was implemented in cooperation with GEFAS Steiermark (Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Alternswissenschaften und des Seniorenstudiums an der Uni Graz) and is offered since 2000 at the University.

7 - METHODOLOGY USED (presentations, pair work, group work, peers, mentors, blended
learning, e-learning, etc.)
Presentations, exercises, worksheets, discussion rounds and excursions.
For instance in the summer academy 2012 Prof Andreas Fink (Institute of psychology of the University of Graz) presented wanderings through the scientific creativity research and newest knowledge in brain sciences. Afterwards Julia Hartmann and Liesa Schöberl (working area biological psychology) introduced and explained practical exercises of different methods for the promotion of creativity and mental fitness.

In 2012 bases on the idea of an “adaptive” brain learning and training is changing its functioning for which a broad palette of tools are needed in order to promote creativity of humans in different age groups. The contents of the summer academy was:
3. July 2012: Welcome and introduction, the creative brain, break, think fit workshop (part 1), break, think fit workshop (part 2), discussion round and closing.
The summer academy 2011 followed this structure:
4. July 2011: Welcome and Introduction, Voluntary work – lust or burden?, Volunteering: obsolescent model or the solution for everything?, Living in the community: excursion in the municipality Feldkirchen/Graz and to the voluntary fire brigade
5. July 2011: For and with older people, Why social engagement?, Volunteering in practice: organisation and volunteers introduce themselves, Volunteering in practice: motivations and perspectives
6. July 2011: Volunteering in the legal and fiscal context, The power of NGOs, Volunteering and I.
