5 - PROGRAM / SERVICE / ACTIVITY PURPOSES
Mindwellness is a 2-year international project, funded by the European Union’s “Grundtvig” programme. There are 11 project partners in 9 countries, including relevant specialists in adult education, pedagogues, medical doctors, university researchers, ICT experts and social researchers. The project has will develop training material aimed at older people (working or retired) to help them to retain mental flexibility (www.mindwellness.eu). The recipients of this handbook are principally professionals and experts working with older people, social workers, nurses, caretakers, etc. These professionals could use the examples as guideline to complement and support the courses or programs that they are developing for their older trainees. This handbook is a supplementary material for older people, trainers and experts interested in his field.
The objective of Mindwellness is to create a training tool that promotes mental stimulation of people over fifty, both working people and retirees, by turning adult training to be entertaining and more attractive, which help to motivate trainees. However, Mindwellness project does not forget that wellbeing is not only brain training, but wellness needs and is influenced by the general wellbeing in all areas of life. This project shares this view with World Health Organization, which in 2002 presented its active ageing proposal as a guideline to guarantee high quality of life for our older citizens

7 - METHODOLOGY USED (presentations, pair work, group work, peers, mentors, blended
learning, e-learning, etc.)
This project starts from a holistic conception of active ageing and mind wellbeing, and intends to address this goal at three different levels:

Firstly, by including active older people, who are still working, within the target users of the training material, which is an added value to the project. Due to the lack of specific training programs for active people over 50 years, MindWellness will be pioneering in this area.

Secondly, the elaboration of the MindWellness training tool and this handbook are the result of different activities carried out by the partners during the first year of the project life. MindWellness Project counted for this analysis stages on the collaboration of the target users of the product. Through the dissemination of the project, each partner developed a network of contacts including people over 50 years and experts in their training. These experts are assisting the consortium as advisers during the process of elaboration of training materials. The active participation of older people in the project is an added value that permits the consortium to strengthen their commitment to the concept of active ageing, which will be the basis from which the training materials will be developed.

And thirdly, through the inclusion of this view in the design of the training tool and the handbook, the training material includes not only brain training, but also other activities and recommendations that could reinforce this active ageing concept. (sports, nutrition, communication, art, free time activities, volunteering, ICTs…) and the handbook, in its practical part, introduces Active Ageing case studies, that could be used as examples for professionals working with people over fifty and for these people themselves, willing to find activities and proposals to remain active

8 - PROGRAM / SERVICE / ACTIVITY SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The MindWellness training tool focuses on three main cognitive abilities for the development of its brain training program: Memory, Speed of Processing and Inductive Reasoning. And with the purpose of including the active-ageing concept in its contents, the tool includes modules such as:

 Computer and Internet, which intends to introduce to people over 50 the usefulness of ICTs and the possibilities of Internet.
 Senses, focused on the importance of senses for perception in older age and in the fun through art.
 Travelling and learning languages in middle age, whose leitmotif is to learn to travel, and travel to learn.
 MindWellness and social networks, which explains the importance of having social contacts and presents pieces of advice in this regard.
 Healthy nutrition for people over 50, focused on the importance of nutrition to improve our health and wellbeing
 Physical fitness, this module stresses that a healthy body is equal to a healthy mind
The handbook, fruit of this project offers examples of active ageing activities aimed at mental well-being. These activities are organized into three categories: physical activities, social activities and educational activities. Exercises and practical information for strengthening cognitive abilities.
