ACTIVITIES FOR IMPROVING MENTAL CONDITIONS
These activities are aimed at promoting the improvement and maintenance of the mental functions that are lost or deteriorated by ageing and the dementias that it usually causes.
They involve the development of exercises that stimulate basic cognitive processes (memory, language, recalling, attention, orientation).
These actions allow creating a pleasant atmosphere for psychological improvement of the individual, so helping to know older people’s abilities and avoiding focusing on their limitations, improving their abilities to communicate and mix with other people, promoting their creativity.

ACTIVITY SELECTED: TEXT READING
They read a text where dates and data are included, next, questions about the reading are asked.
The objectives of this activity are:
• Prevent the appearance and development of memory disorders and promote verbal communication.
• Improve attention and concentration
• Strengthen the memory.

The paper “Mayores siempre activos” (Older people active forever) is not only just a document where a series activities that can be done by older people is collected, it is something much deeper, it is a philosophy about facing with energy our own life, it is about rejuvenating ourselves and be projected on society. To be pleased with oneself implies, as well as our own happiness, its projection onto people around us, friends, neighbours, family, etc. The activities have been grouped according to the aims pursued by them. So, activities for improving daily life, for keeping and improving hand mobility, for improving physical conditions, for preserving mental functions, for leisure and spare time, and finally for revitalization and integration.
