5 - PROGRAM / SERVICE / ACTIVITY PURPOSES
SOCIABLE introduces a radically new approach for ICT assisted cognitive training and social activation for a wide range of senior citizens including cognitive intact elderly, older adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment, as well as patients suffering from mild Alzheimer’s disease. The approach relies on the deployment of a set of applications over a unique surface computing platform. SOCIABLE supports personalized cognitive training interventions designed according to medically sound principles covering all the cognitive skills. The applications support a novel approach combining the conventional human care factor with an ICT surface computing platform enabling:
• Medical experts and other health professionals to manage the medical records of the elderly in a well-structured fully electronic manner. Computer-based access to the medical records, facilitates information management and reporting at various control points within a given cognitive training programme.
• Medical experts and other health professionals to design and customize cognitive training and social interaction activities to the individual needs of their patients.
• Elderly to undertake cognitive training exercises and social interaction activities, in the scope of a motivating play environment empowered by the surface computing platform.

6 - RESOURCES
a.- Which materials were used?
SOCIABLE relies on commercial third-party hardware as the Microsoft Surface, on top of which it has integrated a set of middleware and software modules enabling games deployment and operation.
Microsoft Surface
Microsoft Surface is a multi-touch product from Microsoft which is developed as a software and hardware combination technology that allows a user, or multiple users, to manipulate digital content by the use of gesture recognition. This could involve the motion of hands or physical objects.
Microsoft Surface is a surface computing platform that responds to natural hand gestures and real world objects. It has a 360-degree user interface, a 30 in (76 cm) reflective surface with a XGA DLP projector underneath the surface which projects an image onto its underside, while five cameras in the machine's housing record reflections of infrared light from objects and human fingertips on the surface. The surface is capable of object recognition, object/finger orientation recognition and tracking, and is multi-touch and is multi-user. Users can interact with the machine by touching or dragging their fingertips and objects such as paintbrushes across the screen, or by placing and moving placed objects.
All-in-One PCs
All-in-One computers are desktop computers that combine the CPU and Speaker into the same case as the Monitor. All-in-one computers are often designed to contain the same components and features as regular desktop computers, including floppy drives, CD-ROM drives, and USB ports. However, many All-in-one computers do not include audio amplification circuitry. An external device is usually required if one wishes to use standard unpowered speakers to achieve louder, or higher quality, audio reproduction.
Some All-in-One PCs manufacturers are HP, Lenovo, Acer, Sony Vaio, Dell, Gateway, ASUS and Samsung.
b.- Who conducted the program / service activity? (What role, what qualifications, etc.)
SOCIABLE is already operated at the following organisations:
• HYGEIA Hospital, Greece
• Municipality of Kifissia, Greece
• Forli's Local Sanitary Organization, Italy
• Fondazione Santa Lucia, Italy
• Municipality of Forli, Italy
• Municipality of Trondheim, Norway
• PREVI Care Center, Spain

7 - METHODOLOGY USED (presentations, pair work, group work, peers, mentors, blended
learning, e-learning, etc.)
SOCIABLE for Elderly Users
The SOCIABLE platform comes in two editions, each one corresponding to a different flavour
of the SOCIABLE service provisioning. In particular:
• Home Edition: The SOCIABLE Home Edition enables elderly to engage in cognitive training activities (games and the Book-of-Life applications) through the convenience of their home environment, with or without the supervision of a carer. The Home Edition is delivered via any portable surface or tablet PC providing multi-touch functionalities (Windows Vista/ Windows 7 Platform are supported).
• Institution Edition: The SOCIABLE Institution Edition is specially designed to enable care centers, leisure centers and hospitals to offer SOCIABLE services. The Institution Edition runs over a surface table and enables both individual and group sessions.

• Managing elderly assessment tests through the SOCIABLE intervention
• Structuring interventions based on multiple sessions and games
• Monitoring scores and the overall performance of elderly users.
