UNIVERSITÀ DELLE LIBERETÀ aims at:
being a cultural and formative resource for the whole community;
stimulating the learners to an active and fruitful participation, by proposing initiatives and projects and contributing to their implementation;
increasing the cultural horizons, from traditional culture to the new ways of learning;
innovating learning and teaching methodologies, pointing out that improving culture and learning is possible at every age.
As UNIVERSITÀ DELLE LIBERETÀ is based on the relations between different generational groups, it therefore intends:
to stimulate dialogue, meeting and exchange of ideas among different age groups;
to activate theoretical and practical courses also for people still in their working age;
to increase the development, deepening and updating of cultural and formative contents by organizing courses for the staff of the schools of every degree;
to fight isolation and to stimulate social and cultural promotion of the elder people by means of meetings and other initiatives of socialization and formation;

to activate studies, investigations, researches, conventions on the problems of all ages, including education;
Since 1993 (year of its foundation) the number of participants/learners, teachers and the choice of the educational offers have been increasing. Today it counts around 4.000 members and carries out almost 600 formative routes a year, which involve about 180 teachers.
Attendance to our courses is particularly characterized by class groups which differ both in age and cultural background, with a majority of women.
As far as educational activities are directly concerned, UNIVERSITÀ DELLE LIBERETÀ organizes courses in the following fields:
general knowledge and development of traditional school subjects (theoretical courses);
Information technology; from the basic use of software applications to more difficult programs (theoretical-practical courses);
foreign languages and civilizations (both European and extra-European);
increasing psychophysical well-being (practical courses which do not exclude a theoretical base), that is for example yoga, massage, autogenic training, as well as music, singing, dancing courses;
artistic and handicraft laboratories. These are practical courses aimed at refine manual abilities and creativity.

6 - RESOURCES
a.- Which materials were used?
The site of Università delle LiberEtà is equipped with all facilities to host courses both theoretical (8 classrooms equipped with projectors, TVs and there is also a small library ) and practical; there is a gym, two laboratories for artistic and handicraft works, an ICT room and a kitchen.
b.- Who conducted the program / service activity? (What role, what qualifications, etc.)
Università delle LiberEtà includes around 180 teachers who work on voluntary basis and they are all qualified to teach to adults their subject.

7 - METHODOLOGY USED (presentations, pair work, group work, peers, mentors, blended
learning, e-learning, etc.)
Having such a variety of courses and teachers, we can say that many different methodologies are used. Mainly for theoretical courses group work, role plays and presentations are used in class. In order to stimulate adults and seniors to collaborate and stimulate their inner skills, our teachers always try to have a peer approach and act more as mentors than as formal teachers.

8 - PROGRAM / SERVICE / ACTIVITY SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Università delle LiberEtà (ULE) is a LLL centre engaged in permanent education and training for Adults and Senior citizens.
It counts around 4.000 members and carries out almost 600 formative routes a year, which involve about 180 teachers.
It organizes courses in the following fields: general knowledge; communication and management; arts; ICT; foreign languages; Gym, dancing and body wellbeing; artistic and handicraft laboratories. It aims at: being a cultural and formative resource for the whole community; stimulating the learners to an active participation, with initiatives and projects and their implementation; innovating learning and teaching methodologies, pointing out that improving culture and learning is possible at any age. ULE is an integral part of the cultural life of the city, with its promotion of meetings, initiatives of information and qualified cultural spreading, formation and modernization in line with the principles of LLP.
It has a special focus on elderly learners for whom it organizes specific activities but not exclusive ones to avoid the “ghettoization” of this part of the population. Nevertheless the major challenges that the Institution and the society is still going to face in a near future are:
 Innovating managing, learning and teaching methodologies, pointing out that improving culture and learning is possible at every age.
 to fight isolation and to stimulate social and cultural promotion of the elder people by means of meetings and other initiatives of socialization and formation
 to encourage the settling in and integration of the members of the foreign communities that live in the territory

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
Università delle LiberEtà is also involved in many European projects, mainly within Grundtvig and Transversal LLP programs. In all these projects ULE tries to involve as much as possible its teachers and users in order to give them more possibilities and sources of cultural enrichment and intercultural exchanges.
